Logistics

The following are items that you need to know when transporting your bicycle via Vélo-Express:

  • Identification. Please securely attach the provided ID tag to all items we are handling. "Gate-check style" bicycle and bag tags are available at all of our partner multi-sport shops for this purpose. Please include the following information:
    • name
    • home address
    • home phone
    • cell phone
    • email address
    • multi-sport partner shop
    • event to which Vélo-Express is transporting your bicycle
    • name of event lodging and street address where you will be staying at the event
    • phone number of event lodging
    • other important information, checkout day and time, special needs, or requests
  • Pedals: If our trailer is at 50% capacity or less, then both pedals can remain on all of the bicycles, no dis-assembly is required. If our trailer is at more than 50% capacity, then one pedal on some of the bicycles will need to be removed.. We will take care of this as needed, and no extra preparation is required on your part. We will reinstall your pedal once you claim your bicycle. We will remove this pedal again once you have completed your race and returned your bike to us for transport home.
  • Hydration Systems & Spare Tire Adapters: No problem. Leave them on your bicycle. Just make sure the system has been drained prior to transport. Water bottles are okay just as long as they are dry. You may also leave other items attached to your bicycle, i.e.: cycle computer, SRM / Power Meter, saddle bag, Bento box, CO2 cartridges, spare tires/tubes, etc. Items tend to fall out of the Bento Boxes, so please tape it closed or remove those items.
  • Race Wheels: We accept and will transport all types of race wheels, deep dish and solid-disc wheels mounted on your bicycle. You may also choose to transport a wheel bag along with your bike for $25 (round trip).
  • Race Gear Bag: You may also send a race gear bag along with your bicycle for a nominal fee of $25 each (round trip). A standard size transition bag is perfect example. We ask that the bag weigh no more than ~25 lbs and not exceed ~2,500 cubic inches in size. Please remember to place identification in and on all items that we are transporting for you. (see identification above.) A race gear bag can contain standard race items such as: helmet, wet-suit (dry), empty water bottles (dry), hydration systems (dry), spare-tires, CO2 cartridges, running shoes, bike shoes, socks, tri-suit (dry), swim goggles, sun glasses, warm-ups, etc. Energy bars, replacement fuel liquid or powder, gels, and the like should be in a sealed container(s) to prevent leakage or spillage. We ask that all items are dry at time of transport. If your wet-suit or race gear is still wet after your event, please let us know and we'll "hang them out to dry". The multi-sport shops do not want to have smelly race bags stinking up their store.
  • The Vélo-Express trailer is equipped with bike pumps, a work-stand, and bike tools. We will pump up your tires and reinstall your pedals (if needed) for you or allow you to use our tools. We also perform bicycle repairs on-site for a nominal fee and as time allows. We will even install your race wheels, or change out your cassette for you.
